What is myTC Oversight?

myTC Oversight is Transport Canada’s new digital platform that is digitizing inspection processes and inspectors’ reference materials.

The Reference Centre

Oversight reference materials for all modes

All inspectors can access oversight reference material using myTC Oversight.

The myTC Oversight Reference Centre contains digital versions of the oversight reference materials that inspectors need to access to conduct inspections. It contains oversight reference materials that are currently accessed through a variety of government websites, paper binders, RDIMS documents, and other sources. Reference materials are organized into folders for quick browsing, or can be found through the search feature. Inspectors can now leave their binders at the office because the oversight reference material they need to do their jobs is on their tablets, even when they don’t have an internet connection.

The Activity Centre

Oversight Reporting designed with inspectors in mind

The myTC Oversight Activity Centre contains digital inspection processes that allow inspectors to:

  • prepare, complete and submit inspection forms electronically
  • incorporate electronic signatures
  • convert inspection data to PDFs and deliver them by email or by
  • printing

When an inspection type is added to the Activity Centre, the aim is to minimize the paperwork and administrative processes related to inspections, giving inspectors more time to focus on inspecting. With myTC Oversight’s summer 2019 release, Marine Safety Inspectors can now use the myTC Oversight Activity Centre while conducting Flag State and Port State inspections.

Future Releases

The myTC Oversight team is building a platform that supports the needs of inspectors. We continually update myTC Oversight based on the feedback we get from inspectors, starting with the most important functions that are required for inspections, as well as additional tools and features that make the inspection reporting process more efficient and easier.

Upcoming maintenance releases will include increased usability such as enhanced search features, and performance improvements (through cloud integration).

If you’re an inspector and would like to provide feedback, you can send us your commentsat any time or fill out our [https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/MTtc1019"> Mobile Technology Survey.

The Ambassador Network

Get help, no matter where you work

The Transport Canada Change Ambassador Network is a network of inspectors from all across Canada who are ready and able to help you with myTC Oversight.

Help for everyone. From people who know your work.

Ambassadors are Transport Canada inspectors, and they come from across all modes (Marine, Civil Aviation, Rail and TDG), in every region. They are early adopters of myTC Oversight and are leaders in working with new technology.

Every question is a good question.

Ambassadors can support you in many ways. They can:

  • help you out with working in myTC Oversight,
  • help you find answers to questions you have about your mobile device, and
  • listen to your feedback and share it with the myTC Oversight team.

Every time you work with an Ambassador, you not only help find your own answers, but you also provide valuable insight into how we can improve myTC Oversight to make it better for everyone.

Contact an Ambassador

To connect with an Ambassador in your region, see the Transport Canada Change Ambassadors Network Contact Information list.

Tablet Troubleshooting and Enhancements

Accessories

Many tablet functions can be enhanced simply by ordering the proper accessory. For example you can contact your manager or IT support to order:

  • Adaptors to connect to HDMI devices such as boardroom screens
  • USB hubs to increase the amount of available USB ports
  • anti-glare screen protectors to help reduce screen glare
  • CD/DVD drives and card readers
  • carrying cases
  • stylus/pens

Charging and Battery Life

Keep your tablet on a charger whenever possible. This ensures that it is fully charged when you need it.

You can optimize your battery charging by making sure your tablet is turned on before you charge the battery.

If you need your device to last longer when running on battery, you can request an external battery pack through your manager / Service Desk.

Browser and Network Speed

GCSRA is slower than public internet connections. If you’re away from the office, you’ll need to use GCSRA to access internal Transport Canada tools such as RDIMS or internal sites such as myTC or GCpedia. However, if you don’t need access to internal Transport Canada sites or applications, your browser/internet connection will be much faster if you use standard WiFi instead of GCSRA.

Screen and Text Size

Windows 10 has many settings to make it easier to read text and see images on your device. To change these settings:

<img src="https://www.gcpedia.gc.ca/gcwiki/images/8/80/Windows_key.png" width="114" height="98" />

  • Press your windows key on your keyboard
  • Type Display and hit the Enter key on your keyboard to select theDisplay settings option in Windows 10.
  • This brings you to the Display settings page, which includes:
    • Brightness and colour
    • Change the size of text, apps, and other items , which allows you to make items such as text and images on your screen appear larger or smaller.
    • Resolution can help if your Windows desktop icons are too small. Using a lower number in resolution will make your desktop items appear larger on your device.

Storage Space on your Device

Your device needs plenty of storage space in order to function at its best.

Optimizing your device storage space

If your device seems slow, or if you think you might be running low on storage space, you should contact the Service Desk and have them check your system to see if they need to optimize your storage space.

Causes of low storage space

Some of the things that can cause you to run low on storage space are:

  • Storing non-essential documents on your device. Most files you need to access should be stored in RDIMS or available online. If you have other files outside of RDIMS, myTC Oversight, or myTC that you want to have access to, contact the Service Desk for solutions and options.
  • Syncing network drives for offline availability. (Most employees should only need to sync the Reference Centre). If you haven’t manually synced drives, this won’t be an issue for you.
  • Large system files, such as windows updates, which automatically download to your device.
  • Having multiple user accounts on your device. (For example, if other TC employees have logged on to your device, it will use up some device storage).

If you think that any of the above may be causing your device to run low on storage, please contact the Service Desk for solutions.

Transferring and Downloading Photos

Instructions [http://mytc/RDIMS/15793854"> to download photos from your TC smartphone ] are available in RDIMS.

Updates

If your device doesn’t have the latest updates, there may be performance or speed issues.

Connect your tablet to a TC-internal network (wired or TC-TC Wi-Fi) as often as you can to make sure that all TC-internal updates and patches make it to your tablet.

Using RDIMS

When disconnecting from GCSRA, make sure your tablet has no opened RDIMS documents or File Explorer windows with RDIMS content listing in them. Otherwise, your tablet may freeze, requiring you to force-reboot it (by holding down the power switch until it restarts).

If you disconnect from GCSRA while you have an RDIMS document checked-out (opened for editing), the document will stay checked-out and won’t be editable by anyone (including yourself) until you check the document back in using RDIMS.
