The NMC Secretariat (NMCS) is comprised of the Executive Director, Manager of Finance and Human Resources, Financial Coordinator, Communications Advisor and six Regional Leads for each Region, including the NCR.

The NMCS is the main point of contact for central initiatives, agencies and communities that impact Managers. They work together with the NMC Advisory Boards to promote a strong, united management community. They also coordinate the Strategic Planning process and create the NMC Strategic Plan.

Deputy Minister Champion
 +

The NMC Deputy Minister (DM) Champion is appointed by the Clerk of the Privy Council. The role of the DM Champion is to ensure that at the highest executive levels, the voice of managers is heard and profiled, while also providing the NMC with strategic advice and guidance. The DM Champion chairs the ADM Advisory Board.

Deputy Minister, Transport Canada.

Arun Thangaraj was newly appointed Deputy Minister at Transport Canada in February 2023. He brings over 20 years of experience in information technology, corporate planning, finance and management. Previously, he was appointed Associate Deputy Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and from 2020 to 2022, Arun was the Associate Deputy Minister at Transport Canada. He also served as Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer at Global Affairs Canada, where he was responsible for information management and information technology. In 2011, he was appointed Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the former Canadian International Development Agency.

Arun received the Queen Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013 for his contribution to the federal public service and to his community. He has served on various governance boards, including the Global Fund's Finance and Operations Committee, and is a member of the Public Sector Pension Advisory Committee. He is also a sessional lecturer at Carleton University's School of Public Administration, where he has taught courses in the management stream for many years. Arun is a chartered professional accountant and holds a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Carleton University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto.

About the NMC

The National Managers’ Community (NMC) is an interdepartmental federal network dedicated to supporting Public Service managers and ensuring their insights and experiences shape the future of public sector management. We work closely with key partners, advisory boards, and committee members to understand managers' needs and challenges, driving initiatives that reflect their perspectives across the Public Service.

Our mission is to support continuous improvement and innovation in public sector management. We provide meaningful outreach and engagement opportunities, fostering a dynamic and inclusive managers’ community.

We offer discussions, panels, mentoring, coaching, and workshops to equip managers with the insights, connections, and practical skills needed to thrive in their roles and support a more

Deputy Minister Champion

The NMC Deputy Minister (DM) Champion is appointed by the Clerk of the Privy Council. The role of the DM Champion is to ensure that at the highest executive levels, the voice of managers is heard and profiled, while also providing the NMC with strategic advice and guidance. The DM Champion chairs the ADM Advisory Board.

Arun Thangaraj was newly appointed Deputy Minister at Transport Canada in February 2023. He brings over 20 years of experience in information technology, corporate planning, finance and management. Previously, he was appointed Associate Deputy Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and from 2020 to 2022, Arun was the Associate Deputy Minister at Transport Canada. He also served as Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer at Global Affairs Canada, where he was responsible for information management and information technology. In 2011, he was appointed Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the former Canadian International Development Agency.

Arun received the Queen Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013 for his contribution to the federal public service and to his community. He has served on various governance boards, including the Global Fund's Finance and Operations Committee, and is a member of the Public Sector Pension Advisory Committee. He is also a sessional lecturer at Carleton University's School of Public Administration, where he has taught courses in the management stream for many years. Arun is a chartered professional accountant and holds a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Carleton University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto.

Managers' Advisory Board (MAB)

The NMC Managers’ Advisory Board (MAB) consists of managers who lead their respective departmental/agency communities and managers' networks.

MAB members The role of the MAB is to share information on departmental/agency activities, recruit volunteers from within their departments/agencies to help with NMC initiatives and enable these managers to better brief their ADM Champions on current and proposed joint ventures and NMC activities. The NMC Executive Director chairs the MAB.

Regional Advisory Board  (RAB)

The NMC Regional Advisory Board (RAB) members acts as the voice of managers from across the country and provides strategic advice and direction to the ADM Advisory Board via the NMC Executive Director and Regional Leads.
