xx learning-apprentissage@tbs-sct.gc.ca For self-guided learning that can be accessed off the TBS network. The Learning@TBS group is ever evolving and will feature learning tools such as: TBS Community Learning Guides; second language practice tests and tools; coaching on how to work remotely; links to upcoming webcasts and other curated learning products https://gccollab.ca/groups/profile/4206777/entbs-learning-and-community-development-servicesfrservices-dapprentissage-et-de-perfectionnement-des-communautu00e9s-du-sct Example
Jason Blackwell Jason.Blackwell@tbs-sct.gc.ca A GCcollab group was set up to enable information sharing and collaboration in preparation for CANDEV, a data challenge for Canadian students to tackle real-life Government of Canada data challenges. The GCcollab group provided an opportunity for students with different skill sets to virtually connect and form teams. Example Example
Eric Desjardins Example using as a communications tool, to share information, to create a dialogue within the Public Service. GCcollab seemed to be the best option. The Data page is a godsend, to help write reports to senior management, see what the spikes in activity are. https://gccollab.ca/groups/profile/1773445/ennext-generation-hr-and-payfrprochaine-gu00e9nu00e9ration-rh-et-paye Example
Jeff Outram @joutram Leveraging GCcollab for the M365 Community of Practice has allowed our team at SSC to support colleagues across the GC responsible for implementing Microsoft's M365. The ability to host discussion on any topic, at anytime enables our client support team to provide information and answers in near real-time, as well as encourage the sharing of challenges and lessons learned between teams. • I choose GCcollab to host my learning group, as it offers the ability to communicate broadly across the Federal Public Service as well as provincial and municipal public services and academia. This was particularly important to me, as some of my participants are for example from the City of Ottawa, and I might resort to help from one of Canada’s academic institutions to help educate public servants in the future. Being able to invite individual participants that do not work for a public service or academia is also an important feature, as I might ask external data tool specialists to assist in some of my learning events in the future.
  • GCcollab offered me just the right amount of exposure, not fully public, but allows me to help improve data literacy across Canada’s wider Public Service. Another useful feature is that I can access GCcollab from home, and outside of business hours, as this work does not really form part of my day job, but is a personal side-project.
  • My goal is to improve data tool and analytics literacy among public servants, and GCcollab offered just the right audience and tools (in combination with Webex) for this goal.
  • I used both, GCcollab and GCconnex to advertise on various data related groups for my learning series. I am also pointing participants to data related groups on GCcollab and GCconnex, as well as related pages on GCpedia.

GCwiki

Joy Moskovic joy.moskovic@tbs-sct.gc.ca I needed to be able to communicate information specific to Crown Corporations, most of whom do not have access to GCpedia. Building a site on GCwiki allowed me to have a central, open place to share this information with this audience. Access_to_Information_and_Privacy - Crown_Corporations Example
Colleen Tiernan colleen.tiernan@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca We chose the GCwiki as it was accessible to those external to the GC firewall and we had more than 90 volunteers from all over the region and beyond that needed to access the material.

We were able to incorporate the guide, as well as how to join a volunteer briefing session all in one, easy for us and the participants, a one-stop shop.

  • Also we could use the built in editor, made it easy, you didn’t need to know coding per se but helpful
  • We could add French parallel site
  • Could add pictures and layout design, similar to medium per se
  • Information would open and accessible for others that wish to model the guide for their own conference, event, etc.

Justin Patrick justin.patrick@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca I wanted to find a way to integrate my passion for creative writing into government innovation, so I created a GCconnex group called GOC Innovation through Creative Writing," where public servants can communicate innovative ideas through short stories and poetry. The group has been going for a few years now and has expanded onto GCcollab through the group, "Creative Writers." Over 50 pieces of creative writing have been shared in the group. When I left the government to do my master's I handed it off to Scott Stewart in 2018. On a casual contract at ESDC in 2020, I was pleased to find that the group is still active. Erika Hipson erikadawn.hipson@canada.ca To share information about events planned for Pride Week 2019 https://gcconnex.gc.ca/groups/about/40837724 Example In the group there have been occasional experiments like a recorded reading and custom illustrations to accompany creative writing pieces.
Brandon Tong Example The Knowledge Vine engages a broad audience (576 members) on current and emerging tax issues by using infographics to simplify complex topics. Members are exposed to a diverse array of tax related issues to stimulate thought and discussion within the group. This grass-roots initiative is supported by our partner, the Canada Revenue Agency Young Professionals Network (CRA YPN). https://gcconnex.gc.ca/groups/about/28780111 Example
Anoshia Qadri anoshia.qadri@tbs-sct.gc.ca GCconnex seemed like the tool we needed to find a quick and easy place to notify users for any new updates, policy changes and showcase what HR Council is up to. GCconnex allows us to share information and notify all users of any new material/information in a timely manner, and w we can reach a larger audience with ease. We also use GCconnex to do promotion for HR Council and our events such as smart shops and our annual Michelle. C.Comeau Award. GCconnex is mostly used as our one stop-shop for sharing information.

Since we serve various functional communities, it allows us to share documents and interact with various HR professionals from across the Public Service. We can directly engage with our audience.
We can also re-direct our members to other various interdepartmental GCconnex pages if they need to find and learn about a specific community of practice, so it definitely saves time on that front.

George Adaimy SSC George is using GCmessage with the Technical Advisor Incident Coordination Team to to communicate with their partners across Canada and use it to overcome virtual work. His team (Incident Coordination) is located across Canada and they create rooms where the daytime employees can join shift workers and on-call employees in order to gather data from previously or ongoing incidents. Example Example
Andy Ellis SSC Andy uses GCmessage as a primary communication between their teams and staff members. He has access to 3 other tools besides GCmessage: Cisco Jabber, Slack, and departmental installation of Skype/Office Communicator, and prefers GCmessage because its cross-platform and there’s a community of GC users that use it regularly. xx Example
