Global Affairs Canada
The International Assistance Research and Knowledge division is the research and knowledge “broker” for international development at Global Affairs Canada (GAC). This unit provides resources and best practices to inform evidence-based decision-making across GAC. We provide timely learning opportunities for the departmental employees by organizing exchange opportunities with relevant academics, think tanks, civil society organizations and research institutions. In short :
- Research: Promote access to relevant research and analysis to inform international assistance policy and programming.
- Knowledge: Delve into development trends, best practices and lessons learned to foster a culture of reflection and introspection within the department.
- Engagement: Build crosscutting networks and partnerships with key Canadian and global development actors on priority research and knowledge issues.
Recent report
As part of Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC’s) Action Plan on Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples 2021 to 2025, our department commissioned an Indigenous-led report on Indigenous Peoples, Self-determination and Sustainable Development: A Human Rights Approach. This publication is the result of a strong partnership with Indigenous experts and allies who led the process, including selecting authors and making all editorial decisions. The report brings together the voices, experiences and contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and around the world regarding international assistance and sustainable development from a human rights approach.
