Our goals
The Public Service Commission is launching a Canada-wide selection process that aims to recruit the very best talent in data science. As a data scientist in the Government of Canada, you will:
Have fun with data!
- Have an impact on how Government of Canada data is used!
- Participate in the definition, development and implementation of a data science program that clearly establishes the opportunities for the use of internal and scientific data; design and implement projects to enhance and facilitate the use of internal and scientific data by internal and external users.
- Provide advice and mentoring to GC staff on internal and scientific data analysis and related activities in support of the mandate; maintain industry and academic data science practices and standards documents.
- Conduct studies to identify strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and areas for improvement in the GC’s use and management of data and make recommendations to management or other stakeholders on new data exploitation approaches, initiatives and projects.
- Lead or participate on project teams to develop and implement new or modified programs, services or products for data exploitation.
Our workplaces have temporary or permanent measures in place to ensure the health and safety of employees as well as the continuity of operations. You will be able to discuss these measures and other workplace flexibilities such as telework and work location with the hiring manager for a specific job opportunity.
Our Recruitment Process

- If you are successful in the screening phase, you will be invited to complete a written exam.
- If you are successful in the written exam, you will be invited to an interview.
- If you are successful in the interview stage, you will be asked to provide references and proof of your educational credentials.
- Congratulations! You were successful in the selection process and your name has been added to a pool of qualified candidates. Your name can now be referred to various departments and agencies from across the public service for data scientist positions.
