About us/Purpose
To support the public service employment equity objectives, the Visible Minority Working Group (VMWG) of Indigenous Services Canada aims to identify and discuss issues and recommend solutions related to the recruitment, career development, retention, and equitable advancement of employees belonging to visible minorities groups.
Message from VMWG Champion
“I started my career in the federal public service in 2002, and I’m thrilled to bring my experiences as a visible minority working in the federal public service to the Visible Minorities Champion role and to promote the importance of creating a work environment in which all employees can thrive. I feel humbled to be able to work in this role to develop new, innovative approaches to address some of the issues that I’ve encountered first-hand in my own journey, as well as meet those who are willing to step to the plate to create change during this transformative time. I’m committed to raising awareness about the challenges staff face; celebrate diversity; and provide staff a forum for discussing how to create a more diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace. It is my belief that it’s important for everyone in the department to feel involved and implicated in discussions on the barriers faced by visible minorities and actions that can be taken to create a more inclusive and respectful workplace. I’m happy to help bring the discussion out into the open, shine a light on challenges, and invite everyone to contribute to developing solutions. Kenza El Bied, Champion, Visible Minority Working Group
