==<abbr>AAACT</abbr> Program==

The Accessibility, Accommodation and Adaptive Computer Technology (<abbr>AAACT</abbr>) Program's mandate is to assist with the integration into the workplace of employees with disabilities, injuries and ergonomic requirements, who require access to systems, programs, information, computers and computer resources.

Accessibility means that people with and without disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate and interact with information, services and applications. The adoption of accessibility standards, guidelines and best practices ensures that systemic barriers are eliminated prior to individual accommodations. Accommodations are the necessary measures taken to allow an employee to work to the best of his or her ability. Adaptive computer technology enables a person who has a sensory, mobility, dexterity, or learning disability, an injury or an ergonomic requirement to use a computer by reducing or simply eliminating the barriers presented by standard computer interfaces.

The <abbr>AAACT</abbr> Program currently provides Shared Services Canada and other government departments with a wide range of services on a cost-recovery basis for people with disabilities, injuries, or ergonomic requirements, as well as for technicians, webmasters, application developers, project managers and end users. The <abbr>AAACT</abbr> program also provides support to other Adaptive Computer Technology (<abbr>ACT</abbr>) centres and accessibility- and accommodation-related initiatives.

Since 1991, Shared Services Canada's <abbr>AAACT</abbr> Program has been a driving force in the fields of accessibility, accommodation and adaptive computer technology. <abbr>AAACT</abbr> has received international recognition for the unique services provided to people with disabilities, injuries or ergonomic requirements.

==Document Accessibility Workshop offered by the Accessibility, Accommodation and Adaptive Computer Technology (AAACT) program==

Every document created must be accessible by default. This workshop will teach participants how to implement accessibility requirements through presentations, demonstrations, and exercises. Participants will be able to explain the importance of accessibility. Participants will learn how to apply the basic principles of accessibility to produce and remediate accessible content in various formats (for example Word documents, PDF, PowerPoint). Participants will learn how to perform preliminary accessibility checks. Participants will also understand how accessible documents increase efficiencies pertaining to material conversion into other formats and to respond to multiple format requests.
