From Annie Noel: In our family we love Christmas and always joked that as my last name is Noël my father is the père Noël. Christmas at our house is usually unusual. I am ready for Christmas by September. I bake and cook 3 months straight before Christmas, with my friends and family, then on the 24th and 25th we play games, craft, listen to music & dance, eat lots of food and build a big fire outside and roast marshmallows all in our pyjamas. In 2020, my husband an I both lost our fathers.  Cory’s father passed away from a massive heart attack in January 2020 and my father passed away within a few weeks of discovering he had an aggressive lung cancer in December 2020.  Let’s just say 2020 was not our usual happy holidays as we are just so sad and in shock with what 2020 had dealt everyone. There was no baking, cooking, laughter, fires or games.  Instead I crafted these ornaments for our mothers in honor of our fathers so they could always be with us.  And we had a modest Christmas celebration sharing gifts and memories. Continued from Annie Noel: We are hoping that 2021 will be a return on to the path to our old celebrations but the emptiness is clearly still with us as I am still not ready for Christmas, no cooking done and the decorations are still in the garage.  We are hoping to be able to start this weekend. In honour of the 1 year anniversary of my father’s death (December 7) my mom and I baked a little.  Please note my mom does not bake at all so this was more funny than anything, but it was a good start to the Christmas baking. Our summer staycation meant that we were exploring the unique outdoor spaces that were close to home. One such Ottawa gem is the Canadensis Botanical Garden, nestled beside the Experimental Farm. The art installations that dot the landscape at Canadensis are an added bonus. // L'allée du jardin. Notre séjour d'été signifiait que nous explorions les espaces extérieurs uniques qui étaient proches de la maison. Un de ces joyaux d'Ottawa est le Jardin botanique Canadensis, niché à côté de la Ferme expérimentale. He loved it and was so happy to have had the strength this year to be able to do a walk in the forest. I kayaked in the Grand Lake and paddled down to the Tom Thomson site to have a view from the water. It was amazing to be able to experience that. // L'élément de la liste de mes maris était de faire le sentier Jack Pine, qui est le site de la célèbre peinture Jack Pine de Tom Thomson. Il a adoré et était tellement content d'avoir eu la force cette année de pouvoir faire une promenade en forêt. Spring in RMOD / Le printemps à la DGRO

Patrick Ridgen: Patrick Ridgen: Last summer when COVID cases were low, I opted to take a road trip to the Gaspésie region of Québec. Pictured here is the region’s best-known tourist attraction: Le Rocher Percé located in Percé, QC. If circumstances permit, I would like to fly to western Canada this summer. /// L'été dernier, alors que les cas de COVID étaient faibles, j'ai choisi de faire un "road trip" en Gaspésie au Québec. In light of everything that is going on, I will be enjoying all the outdoor activities that Ottawa has to offer. I will be filling my days with hikes, bike rides, sun sets and a balcony garden. Victoria Anderson-Selst reading a book on her deck with Hudson by her side. To help stay connected, her girlfriends and her started a book club where they meet via zoom every two months. Hudson is her walking buddy as he makes sure that she gets outside at least twice a day, rain or shine. /// Victoria Anderson-Selst lisant un livre sur sa terrasse avec Hudson à ses côtés. Krystel Péladeau's exciting plan for this summer is to go enjoy the sun at the cottage. Ce qu'elle aime faire au chalet, c'est aller à la pêche, faire de la planche à pagaie, nager dans le lac, faire un feu de camp et aime aussi quand les bébés poissons mangent ses orteils.
