GCcollab: Your Professional Workspace for Government and Partners

What is GCcollab?

Hosted by the Digital Collaboration Division (DCD), GCcollab is a professional networking platform available to Canadian public servants from all levels of government, along with students and academics from post-secondary institutions, non-profit organizations, and any other partner groups or individuals by invitation.
Accessible on your desktop, phone, or tablet, you can work from just about anywhere.
Imagine a place where you can easily share documents, host discussions, find each other and work in groups – all in an environment that helps government employees meet their needs for accessibility, bilingualism, security and more, while opening up their work to partners beyond any one government or organization. That’s GCcollab.

How do I get started?

Start by creating an account.
It should take you about 3 minutes. If you have any issues registering, send a message to the GCcollab Help Desk who can get you on GCcollab in no time. While you’re at it, try the 5-minute welcome walkthrough to get started on GCcollab.

Build your profile.
Add your experiences, skills, and passions, which will make it easier to find your next partners (and your next job). Take a peek at a great profile, or if you need a hand, take the 5-minute step-by-step walkthrough on how-to create a complete profile.

Explore the Home page, where you'll find your personal newsfeed, the Wire (a micro-blogging feature just like Twitter), and upcoming events.

Create or join a group.
Tailor your group for a collaborative project, working group, team, event, or program - anything! Check out (and join!) an active group like GCcollab café, or make your first group in 5 minutes.

Find (or offer) your next opportunity.
Check out the GCcollab’s Career Marketplace to connect with a mentor, hire a student, and even start your new career. Take a peek at a job opportunity hosted by the Digital Collaboration Division (DCD, the creators of GCcollab) and head to the Career Marketplace group for tutorials, updates, and FAQ.

Create or edit pages on GCcollab Wiki, a public wiki for you to store collaborative, unclassified information in an organized, interactive way.
Start by learning more on the Wiki’s home page, then check out the Digital Collaboration Division team page to gain inspiration for your first page!

Start a conversation on GCcollab Message, an instant-messaging system that you can integrate in your workplace - and end email chains for good. Create an open group with your team, closed group for a special project, or a one-on-one chat with a colleague. Stay connected on your work and personal computers, and even in app form on your iOS and Android devices. Check out the GCcollab Message group for all of your onboarding needs.

What’s Next for GCcollab?

Our vision is an Open, Accessible Digital Workspace (OADW). Hosted by the Government of Canada alongside partners across the globe, the OADW is a public space for the digital age that reflects new ways of working. It is made up of a suite of integrated tools that connects people and the information they need to better collaborate, co-create, and network – together.
Some of the tools so far include GCcollab Message and GCcollab Message with many more to come.
To stay in the know, join the OADW group on GCcollab.
