What's going on with Data at ISED? A Lot!
Everyone in our Department, on some level, deals with data, so responsible data management is everyone's job. The ISED Data Strategy will help us unlock the power and value of data by ensuring we all have the skills, tools and processes needed to effectively gather, manage and use data.
Enhancing the quality of data and advancing the ability to integrate data
How can we simultaneously improve data quality, reduce redundancy, increase the compatibility of data systems, enhance our ability to know clients, and strengthen the accuracy of reporting? Departmental Data Standards are the definitions, format and general rules surrounding data concepts, whether referring to address information or an industry classification. ISED has developed the first set of departmental data standards (tombstone information), which is currently being incorporated across ISED programs.
Increasing knowledge Exchange
Sharing knowledge and successes, exchanging ideas, and improving data skills are all goals of the ISED Data Learning Events. Every 2-3 weeks, departmental experts and external guests provide participants with insights into a wide spectrum of data-related topics: from building dashboards to using data for decision-making to addressing the governance of data!
Governing Data to Optimize the Use of Data and Statistical Standards
Data Governance is about establishing data guidelines and processes to effectively and ethically manage data. Data stewardship is making sure the standards are applied, and decisions around data are made and monitored at all levels. ISED's Digital, Data and Services Oversight Committee (DDSOC) has been established to transform how we operate, make decisions and deliver services through leveraging our data assets and harnessing the power of digital technologies. The Data Stewardship Network will also be launched shortly!
Improving our knowledge of ISED Data Holdings
Data is one of our most valuable asset, but we first need to know and understand what data we currently hold. The new ISED Data Catalogue is the departmental registry of enterprise data. It is a searchable tool that allows users to quickly find data to meet their information needs.
