In 2018, the Community of Federal Regulators (CFR) was tasked by the CFR ADM Advisory Board on Talent Management to compile an inventory of departmental regulatory training sessions or courses being offered internally within CFR partner organizations. The purpose of the project was to help the CFR identify priority areas for regulatory training across the government; and to share the information among regulatory organizations to support those developing and delivering training, as well as those who are seeking regulatory training.

We are pleased to make the Inventory of Regulatory Training live and accessible for viewing by all federal employees. The list includes relevant training topics developed internally by departments/agencies to train their own staff.

To support you in your response to the COVID-19 situation, the CFR has compiled the following list of resources that may be useful to regulatory staff across government.

* This work is in line with CFR’s 2017-2020 Strategic Business Plan which identified Talent Management as one of CFR’s 3 key strategic areas.

If you have a resource that you think would be helpful to others, we ask that you send it to the CFR at [mailto:cfr-crf@canada.ca cfr-crf@canada.ca] so that we may add it to the list. In the coming days and weeks, the CFR will be adding material to this list as it becomes available.

We all have multiple identity factors that intersect to make us who we are; GBA+ also considers many other identity factors, like race, ethnicity, religion, age, and mental or physical disability.

Notes are an important tool for inspectors. Notes should be recorded at the time an event occurs or as soon as practical after the event (i.e. contemporaneously). The ability for you to take good notes is crucial for you to succeed in your role as an inspector, as it will reinforce your understanding of a particular situation and will trigger your brain to recall information.

As an inspector, you have a responsibility to verify compliance with and enforce the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and the Cosmetics Regulations under the Food and Drug Act (FDA). Obstructions can be physical or non-physical and may hinder an inspector from conducting their work. This course will help you in determining when an act may be considered an obstruction under the CCPSA or the FDA and provides practical examples to illustrate cases of non-physical obstruction.

When things go wrong, those who suffer injury or loss may look to whether their losses can be traced back to government or regulatory failure. All Health Canada employees involved in regulatory activities—in particular those who are involved in making decisions that could result in a legal action—need a basic understanding of Crown liability.
