Recommend more general info to Head of Comms to support good content design practices. General and template messaging departments can use for internal comms also super helpful.
Julie – ISED
Working with others on the Business page. Lots of information and announcements, supporting content needs to be developed.
- Need more plain language content: Carleton prof creates plain-language guide for getting government aid
- Reading level should be lower in times of stress and panic, especially for social media.
- Possible ideas: Create Writing for Digital webinars (Laura Piper & Julie Dufour)
Ania – Indigenous
- Crisis comms and alerts guidance is very helpful.
- Need more general advice to ADMs & DGs
- Would like to do testing with the DTO to see if Indigenous community can find the content.
Christina Vezina:
Vocabulary: outbreak vs pandemic. Each department's strat comms should connect in with the PHAC strat comms team on how to position the language around this. The language is constantly evolving. Each Digital team should connect in with their strat comms leads.
Penny Day:
Need more advice about usability, readability particularly during times of stress to go to high levels of management - so they can balance timeliness with usability - so far we're only seeing that advice going from bottom up - needs to go from top level to their peers. Top level includes MOs
** Noted no one from Finance or Culture on the call.
