Questions

Comment:

Q:I like this new format. We often have a lot of supplemental content, should we include it? Is there guidance?

A: You could include it in the government priorities section, there’s an expand/collapse.

Principal Publisher

  • The nomination deadline for the 2024 Digital Analytics Awards is fast approaching! These awards celebrate the exceptional work being done in digital analytics across the Government of Canada.

DTO

A/B testing

  • We have been doing A/B tests for life events
  • We are now testing with 9 themes/doormats, because we lost too much traffic when we took too many of the doormats away
  • We will consider success to be no significant decrease in traffic, with significant increase in life events traffic
    • We will be documenting all of the testing and publishing it in the fall

Canada.ca Content Style Guide - Plain Language Update

  • Summer of 2023 release of the International Standard for plain language
  • No mention of grade levels
  • Problems with readability level testing
    • Assumes short words are always the best
    • Not applicable for technical documents
  • We decided to update plain language content in the style guide
    • Put together a working group
    • Coordinated with TBS
    • Engaged with Accessibility Standards Canada
  • Contact us at: [[1]] for any questions

Questions:

Q: Any comms products available to support comms officers who have to explain the changes to their staff? If we don’t explain the changes, it could lead to problems. Some plain language staff could stick with the old ways instead of adapting to the changes.

A: We will be communicating with the community and we will discuss internally if there’s other communication needed.
