At the Library of Parliament, we are passionate about contributing to Canadian parliamentary democracy by creating, managing and delivering authoritative, reliable and relevant information and knowledge for Parliament. To be effective our organization needs people who represent diverse identities, cultures, perspectives and experiences. The Federal Student Work Experience Program has been a great tool for us in this regard. Just last summer we were able to hire a student with lived experience of disability. They did great work for us! Their contributions to the team related to refining our research questions, exploring different sources of information, integrating new perspectives, drafting content and making information products more accessible were invaluable. I think as well, the Library was able to offer them a rewarding summer work experience. They experienced up close how Parliament works, and the importance of reliable and relevant information in the democratic process. <br>
