2024DIGITAL GOVERNMENT LEADERS SUMMIT

Virtual Pavilion — Parks Canada

Parks Canada preserves and presents historic sites, marine conservation areas and parks of national significance in every corner of the country. The Agency relies increasingly on digital solutions to help it achieve its mandate.

PC has been using an online reservation system for its overnight camping offer for the last 20 years. Over the years, the system has grown to become an integral part of its operations. Visitors can book from over 11,000 campsites and roofed accommodations to secure their stay in some of Canada’s most popular places. They can reserve a parking space, a guided hike through the Rockies, or a seat in a shuttle bus. Furthermore, our reservation system has now become an essential tool for park management. People are welcomed more efficiently. Congestion is reduced since even visitors without a reservation arrive with proper expectations of what is available. Safety is improved for staff, with fewer cash transactions, for visitors, through key safety messages, and during emergency situations during which staff can quickly pull reports of everyone in campgrounds and in the backcountry.

A contract was recently awarded to provide Parks Canada with the third generation of its reservation system. This updated version aims at meeting today’s and coming visitor’s need, expanding the online offer, centralizing it in one place, as well as integrating new functionalities to further support our operations.
