Digital Transformation Office (DTO) Updates

Last Web Executive Board meeting of the year this week. On the agenda is an update from Principal Publisher about procurement plan for web services as well as new search tool.

Departmental Plans report template changes: Clarification will come for coders and content writers to clarify how to use the templates. The timelines will not change.

The changes were mainly aimed at getting away from .pdf files, which are not fully accessible.

Question:

What is the rationale for the full report and At a Glance page?

Answer:

The policy makers thought that the At a Glance template would help give users an overview of the report.

Question:

Is this new format to be used this year? Or can we wait until next year to introduce it?

Answer:

Yes, departments should use it this year.

Privy Council Office (PCO)

  • Congratulations to Health Canada for their recent great work with surveys for newsletters and other efforts including new dental health pages.
  • PCO will also be talking at Web Executive to better integrate advertising with web teams

Principal Publisher

  • Please start to remove old page feedback tool from your websites. We will start contacting people before the holidays.
  • Dental health care pages were introduced this week and went very well.

Question:

For the Page feedback tool, lots of distressing feedback for pages that include mention of suicide.

Answer:

In the guidance we had mentioned not including on pages with sensitive material. You have to weigh as a department if the feedback you’re getting is helpful or not.

Question:

Are there measures in place to monitor if the feedback tool will be a problem for our department for specific pages? It’s the volume of feedback that is the concern.

Answer:

We are looking at a monitoring system for threats. We get threats flagged to us everyday that DTO checks. You can get help for measuring volume, contact DTO for assistance.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED)

  • Still working on the business theme clean-up

Finance

  • We have launched pre-budget consultations.

Correctional Service Canada

  • Moving to Canada.ca design system very soon.

Public Safety Canada

  • Will decommission the COVID-19 frauds and scams page soon.  

Library and Archives Canada

  • Census 1931 is now fully indexed and searchable online
