Amplifying Accessibility in the Public Service
The Accessible Canada Act requires all federally regulated organizations to identify, prevent, and remove barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
Did you know that…
- The GC is the largest employer and service provider in Canada
- More than 230,000 employees work in the Government of Canada’s Core Public Administration (2022)
- More than 14,000 of these employees self-identify as a person with a disability
- Federal departments, agencies and crown corporations published their first accessibility plans in December 2022 and will be publishing their first accessibility progress report in December 2023
Highlights from Accessibility Plans:
- Accessibility plans include commitments to improve the recruitment, retention, and promotion of persons with disabilities.
- The GC Workplace Accessibility Passport was identified as an important tool to streamline and simplify the workplace accommodations process for persons with disabilities.
- Many departments and agencies are taking action to support more inclusive cultures through accessibility training, awareness events, and by enhancing support for employee networks.
