Accessibility

  • New standards will be linked from your Institutional landing page
  • DTO is working on a prototype for an accessibility feedback form
    • the form must allow any type of accessibility concerns that your department is responsible for - both physical accessibility and program administration
    • the prototype is intended as a starting point for departments, departments will be able to tailor it for their own needs
  • Progress reports that measure and analyze the feedback will be presented in the future
  • Feedback will be anonymized in the public reports
  • This feedback form is not a mandatory pattern for now, but a consistent approach across the entire Canada.ca landscape would make for a better user experience

Task to Services Mapping

  • Task to service mapping presentation
  • The service inventory for the government of Canada is downloadable on open.canada.ca
  • These data packages contain clear information that departments can use to identify gaps in service delivery to Canadians, and where improvements are needed within the various business processes of public government
  • User centered and evidence based improvements are central to the government of Canada’s digital strategy

Footer Guidance

  • We’re updating the footer based on results from the Wayfinding research study
  • This is one of the steps required to move away from needing the theme and topic menu
  • We’re starting by launching the guidance from DTO and the code from PP at the end of November
  • This will be followed by communications products
  • Principal Publisher is creating detailed implementation instructions and DTO is working on some comms products including a blog post, research summary and web managers email
  • December is a time to check out the code and guidance, ask questions, do planning within your institution, etc.
  • Implementation should wait until later in January - we’ll be providing more details about the implementation dates and process once the code and guidance are live

Sign-in Canada.ca

  • DTO has formed a working group to create mandatory design patterns for Sign in and Register pages for authenticated services. The new patterns will improve usability through a tested, consistent design for these Canada.ca top tasks and top call drivers.
